National Health Expenditure Summary (Totals, Per Capita, Share of GDP)
Headline U.S. national health expenditure (NHE) figures by year, 1960 to the latest CMS release: total spending, per capita spending, annual percent change, percent distribution, and NHE as a share of gross domestic product, plus the U.S. population and GDP figures CMS uses as denominators. From CMS National Health Expenditure Accounts Table 1 (NHE summary including share of GDP). National health expenditures grew from $27.1 billion ($146 per person, 5.0% of GDP) in 1960 to $5.3 trillion ($15,474 per person, 18.0% of GDP) in 2024. Long format: one row per year, category, and measure. Categories are National Health Expenditures and its components (Health Consumption Expenditures, which splits into Personal Health Care, Government Administration and Net Cost of Health Insurance, and Government Public Health Activities; and Investment), plus U.S. Population and Gross Domestic Product. Check the unit column: amounts are billions of dollars, per capita amounts are dollars per person, population is millions of people. Annual percent change starts in 1961. CMS revises prior years with each annual release.

Health Expenditure by Source
Healthcare financing structure by country from the WHO Global Health Expenditure Database (GHED). Shows how countries fund healthcare through four indicators: total health spending as share of GDP, and the split between government, private, and out-of-pocket financing as shares of total health expenditure. The US spends far more of GDP on healthcare than peers but has a relatively low government share. Government and private shares should approximate 100% (excluding external funding). Out-of-pocket is a subset of private spending.

Contains candidate ID, name, party, state, office sought, district, incumbent/challenger status, and principal campaign committee. Reference table for joining with expenditure and contribution data. Transparency in Coverage - Claims Denials & Appeals
Health insurance claims denials, appeal rates, and outcomes from the CMS Transparency in Coverage Public Use File, 2017-2026. Key metrics include denial rates, internal/external appeal overturn rates, and denial reasons (out-of-network, not medically necessary, services excluded, referral required). Useful for identifying insurers with high denial rates, tracking the "give up" rate where patients don't appeal, and comparing appeal success rates across states and plans.
