Direct Loan Portfolio by Repayment Plan
How are America's student loan borrowers spread across different repayment plans? This data shows it quarterly, breaking down both the total amount owed and how many people chose each type of plan. Some borrowers are on a standard 10-year repayment track. Others chose income-driven plans where payments adjust based on what they earn, which can stretch repayment to 20 or 25 years. You can see how many people are in each category and how much money that represents. The data goes back to 2013, so you can spot trends in whether more people are switching to income-driven plans or sticking with standard repayment.
