WHO Drug Poisoning & Substance Use Mortality
Overdose deaths are rising in many countries, but comparing them internationally is tricky because of different reporting standards and age structures. This dataset standardizes mortality data from 120+ countries so you can see real differences in drug poisoning and substance use disorder deaths. It covers the period from 2000 to 2021 and breaks down deaths by sex, showing both the raw numbers and the likely range around each estimate. If you want to know whether overdose deaths are worse in your country than in others, or whether the problem is getting better or worse over time, this is the data behind those comparisons.
