House Price Index Master File
Home prices have gone up and down over the decades. This tracks those movements using real mortgage data from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. You can see what happened to home values in your state, your metro area, or across the country, going back nearly 50 years. The data comes in different flavors depending on what you want to measure: just regular home sales, all sales including foreclosures, manufactured homes, or only the ones outside major metros. Each number is an index, so you compare it to a baseline to see if prices rose or fell.
