Department of Veterans Affairs
GovernmentThe Department of Veterans Affairs collects and publishes data across its major program areas including healthcare delivery through VA Medical Centers, disability compensation claims, education benefits (GI Bill), home loans, and employment services. Their datasets track veteran demographics, health outcomes, benefits utilization, and operational metrics. VA data is used by researchers, policymakers, veterans service organizations, and the public to understand veteran needs and evaluate program effectiveness.

VA Federal Supply Schedule Drug Prices
The VA buys drugs in massive volume, so it gets better prices than almost any other buyer in America. This data shows exactly what it pays. You'll find the actual contract prices for over 21,000 different drugs and dosages, along with the generic names, brand names, and National Drug Codes (NDCs) that identify each one precisely. It's a rare window into pharmaceutical pricing at scale, not just list prices or insurance reimbursement rates, but what a huge government health system actually negotiates and pays. Updated twice a month.
Living Veterans by State and Age Group (VetPop2023)
The VA estimates how many veterans live in each state and how old they are. These aren't exact counts but educated guesses based on military records and surveys. You'd use this if you wanted to know 'what fraction of Texas veterans are homeless' instead of just 'how many homeless veterans are in Texas.' Without knowing how many veterans total are in a state, raw homeless counts are misleading. A state with 100 homeless veterans but 500,000 veterans has a lower rate than a state with 80 homeless veterans but 300,000 veterans.
