Texas Ethics Commission
GovernmentThe Texas Ethics Commission collects and publishes financial disclosures required by state law. This includes campaign contributions and expenditures for candidates, PACs, and party committees; lobbyist spending on meals, entertainment, and gifts to state officials; and Form 1295 certificates filed by businesses receiving state contracts over $1 million. The data spans from July 2000 onward and includes individual transaction records (who gave money, who spent it, how much, when) as well as aggregated cover sheet totals. The datasets are structured with lookup tables and registry files to help users connect contributions to specific candidates or offices.
Pinned datasets
TEC Campaign Finance Contributions
Every time someone donates money to a Texas politician or PAC, they have to report it to the state. This dataset is that public record, going back to 2000. You can look up who gave how much, when they gave it, who they work for, and which candidate or committee got the money. It updates daily, so you can track donations as campaigns happen in real time.
TEC Campaign Finance Expenditures
Follow the money in Texas politics. Every time a campaign, political committee, or candidate buys something and files it with the state, it ends up here. You can see who got paid, how much, and what it was for. It's been tracked electronically since mid-2000, so you can trace spending patterns over more than two decades.
TEC Form 1295 Interested Parties
Texas requires companies getting government contracts to reveal who really owns them or controls key decisions. This table lists those people and companies, contract by contract. You can use it to see if the same owners or intermediaries show up across multiple contracts, trace ownership chains, or check for potential conflicts of interest. It covers contracts filed between 2016 and 2020.
TEC Form 1295 Certificates of Interested Parties
When a business wins a big Texas government contract, they have to tell the state who has a financial stake in that company. This dataset is the public list of those disclosures. You can look up which companies got contracts from which agencies, what they're providing, and where the company is based. It's meant to keep things transparent about who's benefiting from public money.
TEC Campaign Finance Cover Sheets
Texas candidates, politicians, and PACs file campaign finance reports with the state ethics commission every quarter. This dataset is the cover page of those reports, which shows the bottom line for each filing period: how much money came in, how much was spent, and how much was owed. You can see who's raising money, how much they raised, which office they're running for (or holding), and which party they belong to. It's the quick summary, not the detailed list of individual donors. Because filings come in constantly, this dataset updates daily.
TEC Lobbyist Activity Cover Sheets
Unlike campaign contributions (which go directly to candidates), this data shows what lobbyists actually spent to influence Texas politicians. Think of it as an expense report: travel costs, meals, event tickets, gifts, and media placements. Every few months, registered lobbyists file these summaries with the state. You can see who's lobbying, how much they're spending, and what category each expense falls into. The data goes back to 1993, though electronic records are more complete from 2005 onward.
