Government

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a federal agency within the Department of Health and Human Services that collects and publishes data on substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and treatment services. SAMHSA operates the Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS), which captures admission and discharge information from treatment facilities nationwide, and the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), the primary source for data on substance abuse and mental health among Americans. The agency also maintains the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices and publishes annual reports on treatment facility capacity, demographic trends, and treatment outcomes.
