FEC Independent Expenditures, Current
Want to know who's spending money to influence elections outside normal campaign channels? This is the data. Super PACs, unions, nonprofits, and other independent groups file reports every time they run ads or fund activities on behalf of (or against) candidates. The FEC updates these filings constantly, but they come through two different pipelines at different speeds. This table combines both pipelines into one place, removes duplicate filings, and keeps you from seeing the same $100,000 ad buy counted twice. You can find who spent what, on which candidate, whether they were for or against them, and when.

Current
Independent expenditures collapsed on dedupe_key: where the bulk-file and API copies and any amendments of one 24/48-hour notice share a transaction ID, only the highest filing number survives, and the bulk copy beats the API copy of the same filing. An expenditure refiled under a new transaction ID keeps both rows, about 5% of dollars nationally in the 2026 cycle. Excludes lines over $100M, which are troll filings under fake candidate names. Sum exp_amo here rather than on the raw table, which counts every copy.
