PPI: Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (Prescription)
When you hear that drug prices went up 5% wholesale, this is often the data behind that claim. It tracks what pharmacies and hospitals actually pay for prescription medications from manufacturers and distributors, not what patients pay at the pharmacy counter. Unlike retail drug prices that include markups and insurance negotiations, this shows the raw wholesale cost changes month to month. It's one way to measure whether the drug industry itself is raising prices or whether markup and middlemen are driving the increases you see on your receipt.
