Average Hourly Earnings
What are people actually earning per hour? This tracks the average wage for private sector workers month by month, going back to 2006. It's adjusted to smooth out seasonal patterns like holiday bonuses or summer hiring booms. When you hear economists talk about whether wages are keeping up with inflation, this is one of the main numbers they're looking at.
