National Health Expenditure by Type of Service and Payer (1960-2024)
How much America spends on healthcare, broken down by what we're paying for. Hospital stays, doctor visits, prescriptions, dental work, nursing homes, and everything else that goes into the healthcare budget. You can see year-by-year how spending has grown since 1960 and which parts of healthcare have gotten more expensive. The insurance line shows what insurance companies make from the gap between what they collect in premiums and what they pay out in claims.
