Average Consumer Prices
Unlike inflation rates you hear on the news (which compare prices to the past), this shows what you actually pay right now. You can see the real dollar amount for a gallon of gas, a dozen eggs, or your monthly electric bill in different cities across the country. It goes back decades, so you can check whether gas really cost less in the 1990s, or compare what people in New York City pay versus what people in rural areas pay for the same items.
